Oct 022014

October is upon us! School is in full swing, leaves are turning, and winter is coming. Geeky thoughts turn to more costumes, scavenger hunts, creative gourd art, and more convention work.

Program News:

Space Camp – The application for 2015 will be available soon and submissions will be accepted from November 1st to December 31st, 2014, only 2 months. Please help us spread the word about this program. To find more information go to  http://geekpartnership.org/spacecamp/. Heads up: there will be a presentation by one of 2014’s winners at the November 18 Open Forum.

Writing Contest – Heads up to writers and graphic artists that the 2015 GPS Writing Contest will be accepting submissions from January 1 through 11:59pm May 15. Why tell you now? There are 2 Youth divisions, and we like to let teachers and students know about this so they can get  a head start. Updated submission rules have been posted to the web site.

Project Lighthouse – The Open House went off without a hitch, and with a bunch of critters. We had teachers, librarians, and rec center program coordinators in attendance for sample presentations from the Como Zoo, the U of M Raptor Center, the Minnesota Zoo, the Science Museum of Minnesota, and Rand Robotics. Go to the link for more information and to apply.

Fundraising News:

Garage Sale – The Great Geek Garage Sale was a success! In spite of 35W being closed and Central being blocked at the railroad bridge, we hit our goal, got a lot of neat stuff for the auction inventory, and were able to answer questions and promote our events and programs, like Project Lighthouse, to the general public.

Employer Matching Gift Programs – These programs usually have sign-ups during their employee benefit enrollment periods, which tend to happen September through November. If your company does such a program you can check to see if Geek Partnership Society is on the list. If not, you might be able to get us added and get more bang for your donation buck!
